What Happens During Shipping of Baby Chicks?

When you order your baby chicks you’ll not only choose your chickens, you’ll choose from a number of ship dates. We’d like to give you an idea of what happens when that ship date arrives.

To ensure the safety and optimal health of your birds, your order of chicks will be packaged and sent via USPS Priority Mail immediately after the birds are hatched.

We carefully box the baby chicks, ducklings, goslings, etc. according to the season so they have the best chance of surviving current weather conditions.

We care about every bird we ship, and want them to arrive in good condition. But we also understand that nature can take its course during travel. That’s why we add an extra 2% of birds to every order. Then you’re more likely to receive the number of healthy birds you’re counting on. For example, if you order 100 chicks, we’ll ship 102 to make up for any losses that may occur during shipping.

How Much Does it Cost to Ship Chicks?

We will ship chicks anywhere in the continental United States, plus Hawaii. How much you’ll pay for shipping depends on how many chicks you order, as well as where they’re going. Unlike some hatcheries, we don’t include shipping in the cost of our chicks—so you don’t pay more than you have to.

For your convenience, we also offer Drop Shipment orders for hatcheries. Plus, we can ship Overnight Express at your request, for an additional charge. Please note that shipping prices are subject to change at any time without notice.

How to Prepare for Delivery of Chicks

There are many things to consider before you place your chick order. We encourage you to visit our blog and browse the articles there, to be as prepared as you can for raising your chickens.

Before you purchase your premium birds from our family of hatcheries, be sure to do these things:

The chicks will be stressed following shipment, so create a warm space for them to recuperate. A cold environment will only add to their stress.

The food and water you provide to your newly hatched chicks will be the first they’ve ever received. They will survive up to 72 hours of shipping by getting sustenance from the absorbed yolk, but they will be hungry and thirsty when they arrive.
